At Cockfield Primary School, Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural is at the very heart of every day. Secure personal development plays a significant part in children’s ability to learn, achieve and contribute to the world as good citizens. Our aim is to support our children to be good people who go on to achieve good outcomes for themselves and others.
This is summed up but our school mission statement:
We therefore aim to provide an education that provides pupils with opportunities to explore and develop:
- Their own values and beliefs whilst respecting the values and beliefs of others
- Their own high standards of personal and social behaviour
- A positive, caring attitude towards other people
- An understanding of their social and cultural traditions
- An appreciation of the diversity and richness of other cultures
- The difference between right and wrong and have the skills necessary to make judgement independently and appropriately
We aim to develop the knowledge and skills in our pupils through delivering our planned PSHE curriculum, the texts which we choose to deliver in our reading lessons, our wider foundation curriculum areas (such as History) and engagement in one-off celebration events over the school year, in lesson time, during break times and through engagement with parents, carers and the wider community. Below are just some examples of how we have celebrated and developed our SMSC skills and knowledge recently.
