On Friday 18th May the children and staff at Cockfield Primary School celebrated the upcoming wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The children wanted to celebrate the big day by organising and holding their very own street party. The children thought it would be a lovely idea to dress in red white and blue or wear their finest wedding outfits for this special occasion, they even made their own confetti!

THE Bishop of Durham is embarking on a prayer walk through Teesdale this week, aimed at meeting people and getting to know the area.
On Friday 11th May the staff and children had the pleasure of meeting Bishop Paul Butler. The Bishop arrived at the school to a very warm welcome by the children. He was very interested in our local mining banner and talked to the children in-depth about its design. The Bishop shared a prayer and joined in with the children as they sang ‘World in Union’.
He then invited us to accompany him through the village as he continued his dales route. It was an absolute pleasure to meet Bishop Paul Butler, staff and children wish him well as he continues his 2018 walk through the dale.
As part of the 2018 series of walks, the dale route will take four days starting on Ascension Day and concluding on Pentecost Sunday, May 13.

We were invited to take part in a celebration of the Commonwealth event in Durham City. Twenty children from Years 5 and 6 have been finding out facts about our chosen commonwealth country which was Brunei Darussalam. The children also made flags to represent the country. We visited County Hall to take part in workshops and then took a very long walk to Durham Cathedral. The children were part of a very large parade with over 1500 children in it, we all waved our flags and met people from different Commonwealth countries. In the cathedral we sang songs which we had been learning in school. We all had a wonderful time and we have learnt many interesting facts about the Commonwealth.
