Investing in Children
On Friday 13th September Chloe Brown presented us with the Investing in Children award for the fourth year running!
This award is given in recognition of all the hard work the children do, throughout the school year, to promote the rights of young people. We were given a special report which highlighted and praised the work and effort the children at Cockfield have given. This included their charity and awareness work, their contribution to the school’s outdoor areas, the sports and activities they have participated in and their continuing say in school life as a whole.
We were all very proud to receive the award once again, well done Cockfield!
International School Award
Well done everyone we have achieved Foundation level of the British Council International School Award! Our assessor said, “Well done Cockfield Primary you have very adequately shown that you have very seriously introduced the concept of internationalism and recognised the importance of this both because of your locality but also to ensure an understanding of the issues that face our world. ‘’
The assessor was very impressed with some of the activities which we have been working on: ‘’You have presented a comprehensive range of activities – the one about climate change for Year 5 and 6 looks an excellent opportunity both to engage externally but to incorporate some active learning which will reinforce the concepts covered. A highlight is also your Global Goals afternoon sessions where you incorporate solution based discussions this gives a forum for really developing critical thinking skills and over a period of time will give the chance for the younger children to become well informed and have excellent rationalisation skills.”
We are now looking forward to working towards an Intermediate Certificate. In order to achieve this, we have a created a Professional Partnership with Nxawe Primary School, Eastern Cape, South Africa.
All About Islam
Many thanks must go to Isha Shakir who visited Class 4 on Wednesday 11th September. She told the class what it was like to be a Muslim living in Bishop Auckland and all about Islam. Class 4 asked some amazing questions, it was a really informative and fun afternoon.
