Online Safety

At Cockfield Primary School, the online safety of our students is a top priority. In today’s digital age, it is essential that children learn to navigate the internet safely and responsibly. We are committed to educating our students about the potential risks of online activity and providing them with the tools they need to protect themselves. Our comprehensive online safety program includes lessons on cyberbullying, privacy settings, and recognizing suspicious behaviour. We also encourage open communication between parents, students, and teachers to ensure a supportive environment where any concerns can be promptly addressed. Together, we can create a safe and positive online experience for all our students.

In school we teach Online Safety through a specific Computing unit of teaching each academic year and then thread this is a golden thread throughout other aspects of Computing teaching and other curriculum areas. We use Project Evolve resources and planning to ensure that our teaching of Online Safety concepts and topics is thorough and effective.

Our computer systems are supported by Filtering and Monitoring services which alert us when users have tried to access potentially concerning websites and also block these from being accesses. We can trail back to see online activity on any device which accesses our school wifi network and we do so if needed to review appropriate use. When these events, or other events such as inappropriate online communication between children, are identified specific additional lessons are taught in order to ensure that children understand the impact of these behaviours on themselves and others.
