Across the whole school we use the concepts of the Zones of Regulation to help us to understand our emotions, how our body reacts to these and strategies which we can use to move between the zones.
There are 4 Zones which reflect different levels across a range of feelings:
We use this language across school and we encourage our families to do so at home too. This helps to talk from a shared viewpoint and then we can begin to develop whole class and individual strategies o help move between zones.
It is absolutely normal to feel all of the zones – we all do! However some zones are more appropriate for a situation than others. For example being in the Blue Zone is great at bedtime but in the classroom we learn best when we are in the Green Zone. Before we go on a rollercoaster we probably build up to the Yellow zone. The Red zone is more of a survival zone but we don’t think very clearly there.
